Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all their help with the Easter Egg Hunt. The elders did a great job stuffing the eggs with candy. We had some left over because we didn't have quite as big a turnout as we have had in the past, so the elders and care partners got to enjoy some candy this week! Yum, but hard on the waistline!
We have gotten some really positive reactions to the pictures we took of the elders who live in The Garden. Thank you to Carol Ruggles for the use of her hats and scarves and thank you to all the staff who helped bring out the inner models in our elders. I think everyone had a good time that day. It's been a great conversation starter! The elders look beautiful (or in the case of the gentlemen, handsome) and the black and white make the pictures even "classier".
Soon we will be stuffing button envelopes for the Freedom Festival. We like any way we can help give back to our larger community. If anyone knows of any service projects we can help with, please let me know.

Thank you!
Thanks to all who came to our 6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a great success and we couldn't have done it without a lot of help. Thanks to all the staff who helped get the elders where they needed to be for the hunt and for helping to hide eggs, thank you to the elders who helped stuff hundreds of eggs the week before and helped hide eggs that day, thank you to all the volunteers for all your help, and finally, thank you to all the parents and grandparents that brought their children to the Easter Egg Hunt. Look at our page on Facebook to see pictures from the Hunt. I am trying to get them on the photo gallery on the website too, but have run into some difficulties so bear with me until I can get them figured out.

Easter Egg Hunt
Hey everyone. We have started the job of stuffing eggs with (lots of) candy for the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt. The elders work hard filling the eggs for the hunt and are rewarded for their volunteerism with some of the candy.
The Easter Egg Hunt is open to the public and is on Saturday, March 31st from 10am-12pm at West Ridge. Registration starts at 9:30am. There are three age categories: 1-3; 4-7; and 8-10. Call Julie Winterboer at 319-390-3367 to pre-register or if you have questions. You can also talk to Crystal, our receptionist, or Kellie or Emily in Activities. The hunt will be held indoors so we don't have to worry about the weather. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
Volunteers are still needed to help with this event so please let Julie Winterboer know if you can help.

Happenings
I should blog at least once a week so I am sorry if anyone has been waiting for a new post. We got the software needed to put the newsletters on our website (instead of have our web designer do it for me) so that is my next project. Please be patient as this particular process is new to me.
Yesterday and today the elders chose to scrap our scheduled morning activities so we could all cheer on the Hawkeye basketball team. We did a good job yesterday with Walter being our head cheerleader and they were victorious. Today, not so much. We tried to cheer just as hard but it wasn't in the stars apparently.
Today we also had some fun setting some brooms up and watching them stand on their own thanks to all the solar activity going on. The Truman students came today as well. It is always fun to have them here.
Next week is the SaPaDaPaSo parade. It starts at 1pm on the 17th. Watch for us in the parade, we will be towards the back. If you want to join us in the parade call Julie at 390-3367!

Happenings
We had a great time making our memo boards last Friday, or as we liked to call them, our memory boards. We still need to attach the "hardware" so that we can hang them on our walls, but they all turned out great. I am hoping to post some pictures soon so be sure to check out our photo gallery.
Our Valentine's parties were a big success, thanks in (a big) part to the beautiful cakes made by our very own Becky Pickart. I will be posting pictures of the cakes on the photo gallery too. We did some Valentine trivia and shared some memories.
Congratulations to Ruth and Gene Dyrsland on celebrating 64 years of marriage!! Ruth had Becky make the cakes for their celebration too and they were delicious. Thank you to Ruth and Gene for demonstrating the true meaning of love and commitment. You set a great example for the rest of us to follow.
Our outing to Ryan's got postponed until March so some of the elders opted for me to go get them something from Burger King for lunch. It has been awhile since we did a "dine-in day". Maybe we'll have to do that again soon too.
Today we had our monthly Community Meeting. In addition to going over any concerns the elders have and planning the elder choice meal for March, we had a celebration to recognize all the accomplishments we made in 2011 on our Eden journey. We talked about completing Milestone 1 and some of our dreams for the future. We also re-dedicated our Eden tree in its new location and put a framed copy of the 10 Principles next to it. Thanks to Richard we enjoyed meat, cheese, & crackers, fruit, veggies and cupcakes. Yum!!
Well, that's enough happenings to cover for now....
